In case anyone wants to download the full ethics commissioner’s report you can do it here. Of course, we all know the bottom line, in this case literally the last line of the executive summary:
I found that Mr. Trudeau used his position of authority over Ms. Wilson-Raybould to seek to influence, both directly and indirectly, her decision on whether she should overrule the Director of Public Prosecutions’ decision not to invite SNC-Lavalin to enter into negotiations towards a remediation agreement.
Therefore, I find that Mr. Trudeau contravened section 9 of the Act.
Section 9 states: “No public office holder shall use his or her position as a public office holder to seek to influence a decision of another person so as to further the public office holder’s private interests or those of the public office holder’s relatives or friends or to improperly further another person’s private interests.”
The entire Act can be found here: Conflict of Interest Act
I encourage anyone interested in looking at source information to read through the Act to give the full context of why it exists and how serious is the fact that the Prime Minister has contravened it.
Here is the complete “Trudeau II” report from the ethics commissioner. You can read and/or skim through the entire report here, or download it for later reference.Trudeau II Report
As the the election draws near, there will be many distortions and much hyperbole about what has transpired between the PM, the former Attorney General, and SNC-Lavalin. If you want to remind yourself of the actual content of the report, I suggest you bookmark this page for quick and easy reference.
May truth always win the day.
